The typical smartphone user is still consuming less than 300MB of data a month, according to a recent wireless study, but that’s up about 230 percent compared with last year’s figure and with data-intensive mobile services like video chat and streaming Hulu knocking at the door, mobile data use is probably going nowhere but up.

Mobile phone manufacturer HTC has confirmed it is to update the software on several of its handsets which use Googles Android operating system. While the older HTC Hero has already been updated to version 2.1, the HTC Desire , Legend and Wildfire are all set to receive version 2.2 of the mobile operating system, codenamed Froyo , in the autumn.
